Annual Glencoe Meet at the Clachaig Mick Fox, Alan Wilson, Mel Middleton, Graham Stewart, Hugh Taylor
This annual meet in Glencoe had one of the best weather forecasts for some years, and Alan, Mick, Mel, and Hugh made good use of the Fridays sun to ascend Tinto (a Graham) which is handily situated just off the M74 near Biggar. As the hill comes into view, the reason for its name becomes apparent, being named after the red felsite rocks on the summit slopes. Graham and Frank should have joined us at the Clachaig chalet that evening, but Frank had damaged his Achilles heel in Spain so had to back out. Hence Graham set off early and got in some skiing on the Glencoe ski runs (which he reports were very icy).


The following day promised a lot but failed to deliver. Mel and Hugh drove round to Glen Crean to walk up the Munro Beinn Sgulaird. With low cloud above 1000 ft and icy rocks above 2500 ft, progress was slow. Photo right shows them on the summit. Meanwhile, Graham walked up the Ben in anticipation of fine views, something that he has failed to have on the numerous occasions he's been climbing there. Once again, the weather failed him. Mick increased his Corbett tally by ascending Meall Lighiche from the chalet, and Alan reached the top of The Pap.

	Sunday saw the best weather of the whole weekend. Whilst Graham drove home, Mick, Alan, and Hugh drove down Glen Etive to check out the Corbett Stob Dubh. Right shows the view of the route up the ridge described in the Corbett book as 'uncompromisingly steep', something with which we would agree. The reward on the summit was superb views all round, though over Ben Starav there was a large cloud bank. The return to the car was made after sunset, and the sky was a picture. Mel meanwhile increased his Munro count by ascending Sgor na h-Ulaidh from the chalet.

With the weather forecast remaining good, the remaining four stopped an extra night, and on the way home ticked off another Corbett, Creag MacRanaich, from the top of Glen Ogle. Here are Alan and Hugh nearing the summit

Mid-Week Walk - Lingmoor and Side Pike David Birkett, Clare Fox, Frank Haygarth, Sue Mitchell, Tony Maguire, Mike Wilson, Hugh Taylor
The forecast of a poor day was spot on for David's walk starting at Elterwater. Starting in fine but dull weather, the route led up above Baysbrown Farm, following the old quarry track, and onto the fell ridge. With waterproofs donned, we reached the summit (Busk Pike) and had lunch in the lee of the wind and rain. Photo right shows from left to right - Clare, Tony, Sue, Frank, Mike, and David. Changing the route due to the poor weather, we dropped down into Little Langdale and followed the old road back into Elterwater. Brambles cafe in Chapel Stile was closed for 'maintenance', so tea was taken in Chester's at Skelwith Bridge. Thanks to David for the walk: pity about the weather.
The colder weather at the end of the month produced some snow. The shot below is from the Ings to Troutbeck road looking over to Coniston Old Man and Langdale.
